Is perfectionism holding you back?

Updated: Apr 27, 2023

Recently I wrote a newsletter about the CD that I released 10 years ago and I was so surprised to receive so many beautiful replies. Thank you!!! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

The one sentence that seemed to really hit a nerve was:

It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be done.

And I totally get it. There is hardly a bigger "back-holder" than perfectionism and so I wanted to dive a little deeper into that today:

In a world that seems to value perfection it can be easy to get caught up in the idea that everything we do needs to be flawless.

But the truth is, sometimes striving for perfection can hold us back from achieving our goals. Actually it almost always does!

That's why the idea of "better done than perfect" is so important.

It has enabled me to focus on getting things out, even if they're not perfect. One of my mentors in the past used to say:

"Get your stuff out, when you feel it's 80% ready. You will never feel like you get 100% because there is always room for improvement."

It has been a true game changer for me.

Often, the pursuit of perfection can lead to procrastination, indecisiveness, and missed opportunities. But when we adopt a "better done than perfect" mindset, we're more likely to take risks and make progress towards our goals.

The next time you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed, remember that it's better to take action and make progress, even if it's not perfect.

By embracing imperfection and focusing on getting things done, you'll be able to achieve more and reach your goals faster.

Here's to progress over perfection!
